Originating in Galveston, Texas, Juneteenth – also known as Black Independence Day – commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans and celebrates African-American culture.
The event is the new reimagining of the formerly annual Gather-In Festival. It will be a celebration of freedom with a day filled with music, dance, spoken word, child-friendly activities, basketball tournaments, food, and vendors. Free and open to all.
